      of the doctor-patient relationship.  There is no need for government to be involved, other than to make sure the doctor actually follows proper medical procedures (doesn't lie, does no harm, etc).  I think politicians playing doctor - even ones who have a medical background like Frist who diagnosed Terry Schiavo from a thousand miles away based upon a few seconds of video - should back off and not get between the woman and her doctor.  They should also make sure she has access to a doctor, as I also believe that's a right, not a privilege.

      So yes, politicians should understand what they're legislating about and they shouldn't make sh*t up or ignore expert advice that conflicts with their agenda.  But that's how many politicians roll.
