    simply do no care.

When people are starving, dying,  and have horrible lives, they will protest and fight.

When they have a roof over their heads and something to loose... the average person will bend over backwards to not rock the boat.

The government and corporations give people something to bitch about but as long as they have cornflakes and a football game whining is all you will get.

I think it's just to complicated, there is no direct line from "bad act" to "you just got screwed". People are pissed, they want jobs, they know that everything is getting worse and the money is drying up, but they don't know exactly why.

When the sequester was in the news (instead of just being here) did you ever notice how the news covered it with pics of Congressional Rs and Congressional Ds and the President while they quick talked about the disagreements? No fingers are pointed, every actor gets equal billing and unless you are better informed you have no idea who to blame or how it connected to anything else.

Quick cut to someone who just had their job furloughed or their local budget is forcing teachers to be laid off or a school closing and still no connection is made. People are free to revert to their own prejudices and feel helpless.

Rs are better at this shit than we are, a few simple talking points repeated enough cover it. People remember the bullshit but have no idea who's bull left it there.

People with a lot of shared anger, much of it over the same issues.

But -- talk to people who talk and they will deny any similarit or basis for common ground.

It is the first thing you do to keep your own power: divide those below you. Let them fight amongst themselves and leave you the hell alone.
