And didn't run. That's why he's remembered fondly as a whitlsblower. Snowden has wasted an opportunity because this is about him and not right or wrong.

And based on Snowden's history, I'm a bit surprised at how few questions people are asking. He sure wasn't fond of whistle-blowers when Bush was President.

I know you think I oppose what he's done. I really don't. I think it would be incredible to have this debate and ideally outlaw what is happening with the nsa. I just hate how this one man has become the issue and am dumbfounded how quickly people have began making arguments they'd never make if they disagreed with his actions.

Whether you agree with what he's done or not, I really can't understand the argument that you should be able to break laws you don't agree with then not have to face consequences. That is a dangerous argument, and one the James O'Keefes of the world would love to make.

Ellsberg faced accusations of being a traitor and all those other things at the time. History certainly has shown that he did the right thing.

We don't know yet how Snowden will be remembered. I can't read the future, of course. I think that he will be remembered for taking the right action at the right time. But we'll see.

You don't oppose what he has done, you just think he needs to suffer for it. It is a strange point of view, but you are not alone in holding it. Many people here at Daily Kos thing that Snowden's actions mean nothing unless he pays for them with his freedom. I simply do not understand this point of view. I don't know why his suffering is necessary. He has released the documents. I think he did the right thing. Why should he suffer for it? Why should he lose his freedom? No one can give me a satisfactory answer, and you certainly haven't.

The public can now see what the NSA has done. And the conversation continues. More information will be released, information that is already in the hands of the Guardian and others. It is really up to us, now, as the public, to make sure that a difference is made, that these unconstitutional activities end.

And I do not think many people are going to say, well, I would care, except Snowden isn't in prison, therefore I do not think this is important. The NSA revelations stand on their own. How America treats its whistleblowers is another important story, though, of continuing relevance.

Anyway, we're talking in circles. Going to get on with my afternoon now.

    •  Have you read Ellsberg's take (5+ / 0-)

on the issue of facing legal consequences, and the differences between his and Snowden's situations?

You are misrepresenting the man and his legacy.

As for the rest... The focus on Snowden himself is a distraction, nothing more.

The pinpoint scrutiny of his personal actions seems disingenuous to me.... An attempt to talk about anything other than what has been revealed.

    •  Ellsberg DID run. For two weeks. He saw (8+ / 0-)

no way to escape so he turned himself in.

You really shouldn't cite him as a comparison when you know nothing about him.

Mr. Universe is a known degenerate Robotophile, and his sources include former Browncoat Traitors. What is their agenda in leaking top secret information about the Reavers and endangering us all?
