about women having basic autonomy over their bodies as compared to a person's right to own a thing.

Regardless of how you feel about your right to own a thing, it in no way compares to having the right to control your own being.

    •  Nope (0+ / 0-)

Why should the state regulate what I own?

Regardless of how you feel, others would argue that at 20 weeks, it is not solely a woman's own body.

The core of this issue - and others when it comes to rights - is majoritarianism.  If 50% + 1 feel one way, that's what should rule?

      Sorry, but no.

is more important than your own body?

And I really could give two shits about what others think about this '20 weeks' issue. This is about a person having the right to make decisions that affect their actual physical body.

Majoritarianism? Yep, the majority of people on this site believe in women having the right to make their own decisions, especially when it comes to their own physical bodies.

        I think that's a good thing.

And I won't even get into the issues around 20 weeks and severely compromised fetuses, because I doubt you are willing or able to try to grasp any of the diverse issues around that minuscule subset of abortions in Texas.

What I hear in your comment, correct me if I'm wrong, is an objection to any discretion that a woman may have over her own reproductive rights from day zero. That's entirely what this bill is aimed at.  So if you have a problem with certain Texans who don't like where your "gun" is aimed, you are clearly what might be called, in Libertarian "circles", a good old fashioned hypocritical "jerk".

        Catch my drift?

at 20 weeks, it is not solely a woman's own body.
Is a woman under legal obligation to maintain the part she does own, her body, to insure that the part you claim she doesn't own, the fetus, completes its development cycle?

        •  Exactly. (0+ / 0-)
Why should the state regulate what I own?
I suppose we could make abortion a property rights issue.
