  •  while there were reports the train had gone thru (0+ / 0-)

town earlier heading west uphill to the siding, the report in the diary at the top says 'five locomotive engines' they were full cars with crude oil heading east.

I think that was in Zwoof's first diary

This report says they were full of crude heading east and parked at the top of the hill, aimed east towards the town, accounting for the 5 engines in the photo...not apparent the engines direction but the five engines seems to me to mean they were all together at the head of the train...and therefore headed east with a full load of crude oil.

So that answers several questions I had...except for the false reporting of the train going thru town earlier heading west..another train?

And then there is the switch question...

............ but back to the 'previously went thru the town' bit, I doubt he would go downhill, and then see he was out of time and reverse back uphill to the siding, altho such a thing is not unknown, neither is it reported in this case in the article about the engineer.

The last observation to make is that according to that article this was a regular schedule and predictable.

So people could have planned for this train to be there then with this load...more likely than a random load....just one of many things to notice here.

    This machine kills Fascists.
