  •  Someone SHOULD go after the VA director (4+ / 0-)

The VA is a disgrace to the citizens who have served in the military.  One former Assistant Director of the VA is quoted as saying "We have been six months away from being 100% electronic records for five years now."

They are still using paper to track GI Bill, Medical, and Psyc benefits.  The last two studies showed that on the medical side, if we just enrolled Vets in to Medicare they would get better treatment and at a lower cost than through the VA system.

It is about time someone besides Rep Duckworth took notice of the VA.

      •  So is the funding there? (1+ / 0-)

Last I heard the Republicans wanted to disband the VA and privatize all its functions, giving veterans a voucher and good luck finding the specialized and coordinated treatment they need.

There may be issues with the VA but you do not throw out the entire system and try to replace it with an infinitely worse one.

Well, maybe not unless you are multiple car-stealing, possible arsonist and high school drop out Darrell Issa.

        •  privatize vs transfer to a different system. (0+ / 0-)

the two studies in the past found that the cost of treating vets by enrolling them in Medicare with 100% funding would be less than continuing the VA Hospital system.  Which would mean that a Vet could go to ANY doctor that took Medicare instead of just to the VA system that in many cases is hours away from where they retired to.

Now the GOP wanted to go a step further and give them vouchers for private insurance.

Bush started to raise funding of the VA, and some places are doing better.  So instead of being two years away from electronic records for the last ten years, we are six months away for the last five years.

    •  Actually... (0+ / 0-)

...for the past few months, a lot of my stuff done through the VA has been done electronically. Both at the VA clinic and with Voc Rehab.
