  •  Steak? Crab legs? (13+ / 0-)

It's not providing all of the food for us, but I am getting something like $270 a month of SNAP for a family of six. In case any Fox bots are reading this, that's less than $10 a day for three adults, a teenager and two growing children. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The only steak we ever get is tubesteak. Alaskan king crab? You've got to be kidding me. We can barely afford fish sticks. We like eggs because they're cheap protein. We'll take our chances with the cholesterol.

The GOP speaks of "Food stamps." We speak of SNAP. We're correct, because there are no Food Stamps anymore. The program was renamed, turned to block grants, reduced, and made susceptible to chicanery.

Louis Gohmert of Texas talked about how horrible it was that a constituent of his (R - imaginary) couldn't get any Alaskan King Crab legs at the supermarket, because the person in front of him was buying pounds of them with Foodstamps. Steve King has opened his lie machine with similar.

My point is that we speak of the truth, under the real terms, and Republican voters in the bubble have never even heard of the programs. They go on Google and look up "Food Stamps" and "Welfare" and other things that their party already destroyed and get stories of abuse that they then believe.

What I wrote was outrage at the claims Gohmert (R- Bizarro World) and others like him are making. I think they have no idea, first, how little SNAP recipients get, and second, how far it goes (or doesn't go).

But to them it doesn't matter, they've signed on to the Big Lie and they'll keep telling it over and over until either they get what they want or they're marginalized. I keep hoping we can figure out how to marginalize them; unfortunately, as has often been pointed out, poor people have no political clout.
