    What would be way cool, I think, would be a "Social Security Commune" in a foreign country... a bunch of expat geezers lending a helping hand and moral support to each other in a "strange land."

    I LOVE the apartment complex idea.  I'm one who usually thrives being around others in close quarters (especially once the sense of "family" sets in), but I also need my own private space to retreat to at times.  When I was in my 20's, I envisioned a large "square" of single-level apartments, each opening up to a communal courtyard, with at least one large space (either indoors or outdoors) to be used as a communal kitchen and/or gathering space.  The idea felt so "right" it's stayed with me just as sharp and clear these near 40 years later as it was the first day I saw it in my mind's eye.

    Guess I never really grew out of the "flowerchild" stage!   Heck, I still have a pair of rose-colored glasses! (LOL)
