a significant punch for someone not used to firing one.  Of course we have the defense testimony which is a variant of the Twinkie defense, namely that GZ was the Pillsbury Dough Boy and was barely capable of lifting the gun, much less aiming it and firing it. After all 2-3 MMA training sessions a week for a year would have had no effect upon his physical condition.  (yeh I am being a bit sarcastic but that was the gist of the defense wasn't it?  Lovable, huggable, blundering Georgie is really just a Teddy Bear and not capable of malice?)

Have not had a chance to compare the recoil head to head with a 500, a 44 mag, a 9mm and a 45 for example and it has been some years since I have shot some calibers but if GZ were bum rushed or tackled, it seems if he had already brandished the weapon, he may have been hit in the nose with it before he fired.  There is no question that he "carried live" with  round in the chamber like some of his cop heroes and the defense avers that he was indeed attacked by Martin

he may have been hit in the nose with it before he fired.
The diarist opined that the recoil of the weapon created the nose break, not unless he was balancing it on his nose when he shot and then the slide bite would have taken half the tip of his nose off....

The PF recoils harder than a full size glock or similar but is still minimal.......

      •  small quibble; except for statements by defense (3+ / 0-)

counsel, there is no medical proof in the record of his nose's being broken.  He was certainly never treated for a broken nose and his nose did not appear to be broken in pics from that night ("raccoon face" is what you would expect from a busted schnozola)

        •  Whether actually "broken" or not, ... (2+ / 0-)

it's irrelevant because he clearly was injured.

          •  that sounds like the legalistic definition of an (0+ / 0-)

"An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm" (threat need not be verbal) so in lawyer's parlance, GZ had been assaulted even if no one ever laid a finger on him

I have received greater injuries from a slip and fall while alone with no one around
