  •  Seems to me you would be wrong (6+ / 0-)

-Heidi Fleiss for starters served jail time.
    -Richard Hatch of Survivor.
-Martha Stewart was convicted but she actually served for insider trading so I guess she doesn't count.

That's off the top of my head.

Personally I don't know why Lauryn Hill is serving jail time other than the fact that she owes over 2 mil from 8 years ago.  Especially if she paid it all back.  I don't know the whole story and never really cared much about Lauryn Hill to find out.  BTW she's currently incarcerated at the same jail in Danbury CT (across the street from my kid's primary school!!!) that a WHITE celebrity named Leona Helmsley was also imprisoned in.

But other than Hill the only other BLACK celeb that I can think of in the last 30 years who served jail time for tax evasion was Wesley Snipes and as much as I like him the dude did everything possible to avoid paying taxes so frankly a little jail time was warranted.  After that you'd have to go back to Richard Pryor in the 70's or Chuck Berry over half a century ago.  There are a few no name rappers who also did some time but I'm sure you can find just as many WHITE metal musicians who also ran afoul of the IRS.

Don't make this about color because there's no there there.  The issue is whether or not Wall Street execs get preferential treatment, even over celebrities.  I think we all know the answer to that.

I see your Darryl Strawberry, who was also in jail for an assortment of things including drugs and soliciting prostitutes and raise you

        PETE ROSE!!!

And Ja Rule was originally arrested for criminal possession of a weapon.  Namely a loaded semi automatic gun in his car.

And Ronald Isley?  Seriously?  The dude has been irrelevant since the 80's and he owed back taxes for 10 years.

If that's the best you have to 'prove' that the IRS unfairly targets BLACK 'celebs' for jail then you really don't have anything.

It seems at best like a cherry picked list of black celebs to make a point.  I suggest you do some research into the specifics of each case and find out WHY these people were given jail time before making unsubstantiated race based accusations.

        •  Snipes went to trial and blamed someone else. (0+ / 0-)

It's the sort of thing that leads judges to believe you aren't sorry.  Still, three years was too long, for sure.  Ninety would have been closer to proper for him.
