  •  Surely from time-to-time, John Boehner .... (4+ / 0-)

..... must think that he was born twenty years too late.

Had he been Speaker (or at least Republican leader) in, say, the 1990's: live would have been a blast. Born to be a corporate liaison with Congress, he would have had fancy dinners, golf trips, beach vacations galore ... with no need for tanning salon visits. True, there were crazies among the House Republicans ... but they were a few oddballs, nuisances, something he could delegate to others.

Now? He has to be a full-time baby-sitter, and this job cannot be fun. That many essays have speculated on whether he intends to blow-up his job (based upon the immigration bill, etc.) is indicative.

As Charlie Pierce put it, when Boehner lost a December, 2012 GOP caucus vote:

(Boehner) is a Republican pretending to be a fanatic ... who went hat-in-hand to a bunch of fanatics pretending to be Republicans.

"We should pay attention to that man behind the curtain."

    •  I actually do feel sorry for him often. (1+ / 0-)

He has a caucus full of wingnuts in safe seats, whose only concern is a primary in their own district.  They could give a rat's ass about ever winning the White House again...
