that the two things that can get you kicked out of Peace Corps are riding a motorcycle and proselytizing.

anything involving peace.  He fancies himself one of those Christian soldiers marching off to war with his weapon of choice being his proselytizing mouth.

a motorcycle as part of my job.  But, we were warned about proselytizing (and, I knew one asshole who did it constantly -- so bad that he was teaching Bible classes in the school he was sent to teach Math in).

      •  When I was a volunteer (1+ / 0-)

the rules changed from being able to drive a bike to having to ride with someone on the bike, with a helmet.  And we needed to get permission from the country office giving a justifiable reason for the helmet (Peace Corps would provide the helmet if the permission was granted).

The reason for the restriction was financial; Peace Corps was spending more and more money on Workman's Comp for motorcycle-related injuries, and it wanted to stem these costs, so actually, when I was a volunteer, the reason for getting kicked out was to be caught driving a motorcycle or riding one without a helmet.

It has since gotten more restrictive.  Now, you cannot ride a motorcycle as a passenger.  I believe the third reason for an automatic AdSep was to get caught smoking pot or doing any other illegal drugs.

on helmets.  No helmet, sayonara.  When I was a volunteer (79-81), the most frequent cause of death amongst PCVs was motorcycle accidents.
