  •  Thank you (18+ / 0-)

for sharing this diary with us Will.

I can only imagine how difficult it is to relive that violence when writing about it. There's been too much racism denial on this site lately, and it's very selfless of you to share your traumatic experience as part of the important discussion this site and and nation are having (or too often not having) about racism and white privilege.

-- only I'd add that it's always been here.  Though I should qualify, since you've been here millennia longer than I have, that it's been here at least as long as I have.  Maybe it was different once, but not during my time here.

And you, surfbird, are a fierce fighter against it.  I've seen you in the same battles I've been in, and am always glad your'e there.

because one of the reasons I probably didn't notice it as much in the early days is that I just don't remember us talking about race as much back then. For that matter, my mind was so focused on electoral politics and stopping Bush back then that I probably didn't even notice some of the discussions about race at the time.

But the site growth is good. Fewer folks meant fewer points of view. More folks may be more unruly, but it means more points of view and more opportunities for discussion. It's a good thing that we're talking about race and white privilege, because it gives us a chance to confront the problems, including denial.

I've always prided myself on arguing that there never were any "good old days" on Daily Kos. What I should have said is that I've been seeing it a lot more lately, and that has more to do with me than the site.

And that's a huge compliment coming from you Yasuragi, because I feel certain you've usually been there in the fight before I've managed to show up!

you've been here: had not run into you until recently, at least as far as I remember.  But I kept seeing your name, and you making cogent, clear, and excellent points.  Glad to have you among the warriors.  :)
