  •  wu ming - Pelosi can't be beat (0+ / 0-)

The seat is hers until she decides to retire. Pelosi is a force in California Democratic politics. The Democratic establishment would shun anyone who would challenged Pelosi in a primary and make sure access to campaign cash was very difficult.

    •  depends on the voters in the district (0+ / 0-)

the top 2 system makes it more doable than in the old primaries, but yeah, it would take a strong candidate (ie. not a cindy sheehan) and a lot of effective grassroots organization and fundraising to make it close. ultimately, though, it is the voters of the district who decide, not the state dem party. with statewide races, it's a totally different situation because of the vast expenses necessary to campaign, but SF is pretty compact and politically tuned in to things.

i'd say unlikely to be beat, not not theoretically impossible.
