...concerned about climate change than the US government????

Glance at aggregate CO2 emissions growth, US vs China, since 2007, and get back to me.

    •  they have been able (7+ / 0-)

to invest more heavily in renewables than the US.

Their one-party rule allows swifter action than our gridlocked system mired in molasses by fossil fools like James Inhofe, et. al.

n.b. what I did and did not say in my comment:

China is more concerned about climate change than the US government
is not a quote. But they do seem more willing to make vigorous strides, such as planting BILLIONs of trees, than we do much of the time.
The campaign counted with the participation of 193 countries with China currently in the lead, having planted a total of 2.8 billion trees since 2004. India holds second place with 2.1 billion trees, followed by Ethiopia, Mexico and Turkey.
Cannot we even crack the top 5?

Global warming & smoking cigarettes = Nothing to worry about? Those who deny climate science are ignorant, evil or worse. Google Fred Singer.

      •  China interested in leading (6+ / 0-)

the green energy markets over the next century. They are definitely interested in climate change as a way to make money.

We don't plant trees because there is no short term payoff. If it doesn't make money immediately, we don't do it here. Imagine what would happen if the Koch brothers decided that green energy (and planting trees) was a great way to make money...

Breathe in. Breathe out. Forget this, and attaining enlightenment will be the least of your problems.

Otherwise, Beijing will be in the middle of a howling desert in a few decades.

One should remember that their efforts to reforest now are necessitated by completely irresponsible over-harvesting for the past five decades.

      •  Those stats are for the UN-led initiative (0+ / 0-)

mentioned in the link - NOT the number of trees planted per country.

Since 2004 in the US, for example - which is a timeframe that includes about 3,000 days with 5,000,000 trees planted each day - that works out to about 15 billion trees planted in the US alone - or MORE THAN THE ENTIRE WORLD (based on the link you gave).

Bottom line, we're probably not doing as poorly as you suggest in that regard.
