    I'm still a mixed-economy advocate, but even I think that the requirement of "pure socialism" is probably the silliest and least coherent argument against socialism out there.  "Pure" economies exist on paper, and they're either broadly descriptive ("How do we explain the economy of some past era?") or prescriptive ("How do we imagine an economy for tomorrow?") and neither have very much to do with the day-to-day reality of an economy.  Even past terms like "feudalism" take on a hundred asterisks when we start analyzing specific eras.  To dismiss socialism on these grounds doesn't make any sense.
