  •  If he's found innocent there should be riots (5+ / 4-)

A verdict of not guilty basically legalizes murder in the state of Florida. It will mean that every crazy white racist can grab a gun and go hunting for blacks. All they have to do is find an unsuspecting person, harass them, get a person to throw a punch, and then they can whip out a gun and murder that person in cold blood.

No one will ever be arrested for a shooting again, because the racists will be able to claim self defense for every situation they put themselves in.

If Zimmerman is not guilty, then murder is legal. God help Florida after that.

    •  So will 53 deaths be enough? (2+ / 0-)

That's how many died in LA in the 1992 riots.

A not guilty verdict legalizes the murder of minorities. And those murders will begin almost immediately.

I don't care that you HRd me, but you'd better start accepting reality. Minorities will be forced to defend themselves and will be able to trust no one.

State did a lousy job proving its case.

That's the opinion of a lot of people here and the opinion of a lot of legal analysts on MSNBC who really believe Zimmerman committed murder. I don't really care what talking heads say normally. But they tend to agree with our community, and most of them are admitted to the bar and have tried criminal cases. So they add credibility to the community's opinion.

I personally had felt that the evidence was pretty overwhelming. But the state didn't present a compelling narrative.

If Zimmerman goes free, it means nothing except that Zimmerman was found not guilty.

Your call to violence is HRd. Riots rarely spread to upperclass white neighborhoods. The people who are harmed are the very people whom we believe HAVE BEEN HARMED by the system.

I'm tired of having to explain to too many Kossacks the utter devastation wrought to poor and working class people in the Rodney King riots. It wasn't a news story. It's wasn't a political event. People were hurt, people were killed, livelihoods destroyed.

What progressive thinks that's a good idea?

You're correct, it does the poor no good to loot and burn down their own neighborhood. That's just stupid.

But the legalization of murder must be protested. And Fox News will call any mass protest by minorities a riot, so better accept that too.

But you know, it is possible to riot against the govt of FL without stealing TVs.

            •  Well, riots are by definition violent. (1+ / 0-)

If folks want to get together and protest peacefully until the government actually listens to their grievances, I'll be the first to have pizzas delivered to them.

              And the racists at Fox?
              Well, don't get me started...
Ok, no pizza for them, for starters.

If he's found not guilty, it means that the prosecution could not prove its case against him beyond a reasonable doubt.  Even if you believe he's guilty, that's how our system of justice works.  The burden is on the prosecution, and if they do not satisfy that burden, the jury must find the defendant "not guilty."

It will mean that every crazy white racist can grab a gun and go hunting for blacks.
A "not guilty" verdict does not mean this, any more than the O.J. Simpson verdict meant that "every crazy ex-husband can grab a knife and slice his ex-wife and anyone he finds with her," or that the Casey Anthony verdict meant that "any crazed mother who doesn't want children can murder her child and make up excuses for it."

Sometimes the prosecution doesn't prove its case.  If that's what happens here, it won't be the first or last time.  It shows our system of justice is not perfect, but it's by far the best system that's ever been developed.
