    they chose to go with an unstable battery type .
    They chose to go with a lightweight battery because it was light weight .
    The "fix" cost them as much weight as the batteries saved .
    They ended up with unstable batteries and no weight savings .

      cheaper to clean up messes ausednd settle lawsuits out of court than do something correcly

        To rebuild everything to switch back to the older style battery type would have been such a major redo that the option to do that was really never on the table , imho . The cost in money and time .

        There is still the chance that this burnt 787 has nothing to do with batteries or Boeing .
        It all might just be a coincidence .

          however I seem to recall reading something that gave me the impression somebody was sticking with that battery design no matter what, and that money and/or profits were at the bottom of it.

          I read your responses and defer to you as knowing more than me on this, so don't take me as contentious.....
