    and recorded for posterity.

And over here we have female state Reps in WI get sanctioned for vigorously arguing against the religious nature of abortion restriction legislation, just because the used the word Vagina in an effective emphatic closing sentence.

And then down in TX we have male speaker of the house ignoring his female colleague in a late night race to midnight to force a bill through that attempts to force women to bear children against their will.

    •  you seem to ignore (0+ / 0-)

that the measure at hand is not controversial in Ireland, supported by all major parties and widely considered codification of already valid law of the land due to supreme court judication.

So a somewhat amenable atmosphere should be no surprise.

tampons and maxi pads at the state capital while referring to female voters as an unruly mob--and then there is this.

not the issue - it's that entitlement of men to do whatever they want. In Ireland's case the issue is that during a late night session to work, they keep the bar open all night and a male MP has no inhibition over his compulsion to humiliate his female colleague by grabbing her in public and pulling her onto his lap. That's sexual assault. On the floor of the legislature. While in session. Working late into the night presumably because the work was so urgent. While keeping the parliament bar open all night.

The connection is that men in parliament feel entitled to humiliate women whenever they want to.

And in TX the GOP feels entitled to pass legislation and humiliate women whenever they want to. They confiscated tampons and pads from women going into the TX state house. That has clearly two purposes - humiliate a lot of women when you rifle through their purse, and to make sure women who are menstruating can't stay as long as they might want to stay.
