    of business travel, I always sat in the aisle seat.  And on the occasions that I would travel with Mrs. Joe, we could get an aisle and a window (she still likes to look out the window) and be reasonably sure that the middle seat would stay empty.

    No more.  I no longer get to see what's in front of the curtain, but "economy" class is packed wall-to-wall these days because the airlines have both cut down on the frequency of flights and the size of planes in the fleet (the B-737 is the most popular airliner and its nearest rival is the A-320; both are narrow-body aircraft with 3-aisle-3 seating).  So I either get the middle seat or grief when I get home for not sitting next to her.
