one's peers can result in the wrong decision.  Some people cannot understand law in 2 days.

Ever wonder where are all the people who vote for American Idol more than for President of the United States?

They were my 11 "peers" when I was on a jury in Philadelphia last summer.

OK, 3 of them were fine, but the other 8 were really fucking stupid.  Like "omg, the ADA is sooooo hot, I wonder if he'll go on a date with me after the trial is done".

I fucking hated it, but had to keep my mouth shut for the whole time since I didn't want them to not like me and thus not take my opinions seriously when we made it to deliberations.

Call me elitist if somebody wants to, but I need to be around smart people.  You won't find many of them on juries.

    •  I'm not sure the jury is the problem. (0+ / 0-)

Under Florida Law, they were supposed to decide the one unknowable part of the story "beyond a reasonable doubt."

We all know George killed Trayvon. Every one has a theory about the details that we can't prove. The law came down to proving who threw the first punch.

We can all agree that George made murderously bad decisions, but I don't know who threw the first punch - it FEELS like that shouldn't matter.

But, from what I've read about the crazy self defense laws in Florida, that IS what matters.
