By separating the SNAP program from the farm support portion of the Ag bill, the Republicans have taken  a subsidy away from farmers that has been a subsidy accepted by both sides of the political aisle for decades.

The more money that is cut from SNAP, the less money farmers make from the government's financing poor people's ability to buy the food the farmers and ranchers produce.  Another penny-wise and pound-foolish production brought to you by the Republican party - a party that is in such disarray it's no longer possible for them to understand that the niggardly policies they support on one hand are draining support away from policies they support on the other.

The fact that Milbank misses the point of the action Republicans have taken on the Ag bill is no surprise.  He seems to miss the big picture most of the time.

"In this world of sin and sorrow there is always something to be thankful for; as for me, I rejoice that I am not a Republican." - H. L. Mencken
