By the way, I am an enthusiastic user of the Tube when I visit London. I sometimes go as far west as Kew, and south of the river, as well as lots of 'Zone 1', of course.

Stanmore with a lode of school kids, daring the guards to ask to see my fare. Felt like I was in an episode of Grange Hill.

      Then rode back again!

One grim Sunday, the driver on the Jubilee line invited me into the cab at Finchley Road to ride up one stop to my station. I guess when you ride the tube 7 days a week, the train drivers on your line get to know you. :-) Several years earlier, the guard on the last car on the Central Line (back when they had door-closers on the trains) tried to lure me to White City with the treat of getting to close the doors. I was too cagy to do it, but in hindsight I wish I had done. Back in the day I was aggressive about staying safe (20-year-old short blond girl) but now I'd do it in a heartbeat! Except I wouldn't be asked!
