then he went and, against the will of the majority of White people, got himself elected POTUS - TWICE! Now, to the overwhelming majority of White people - Left, Right, and Center - Obama is a scary Black guy who is instituting a police state. It seems that White people - Left, Right and Center - are in agreement that this is a "different" AmeriKKKa, and things are much worse than at anytime in the past.

Because only a White AmeriKKKan could believe that things are worse now than at anytime in the past, and that scary Black guy in their White House is the main culprit.

I am not now, nor have I ever been, a member of the Republican Party.

...especially on national security where he has a heavy legacy which - apart from Iraq - he never tried to contest.

But as a bit of an Obamabot, I don't think the unfairness towards POTUS is all racially motivated at all. Presidents get ridiculous amounts of personalised flak. Combining head of state, CEO and commander in chief is an impossible symbolic burden.

I know there are many, even on Kos, who will use anything to beat Obama with. However, that doesn't absent the administration from improving its act when it comes to say, bank regulation, digital monopolies, and the new potential of the surveillance state.

There is definitely a certain segment of people who, consciously or unconsciously, fell threatened by Obama's "blackness" and not all of them are Republicans.

But then, I have to agree with your point about the office itself and Obama on policy. I have (and remain) very critical of him on some things, but you can count on me as an ardent supporter on others and in general, and anyone here that thinks he is some sort of Dino is hallucinating or short in the memory department.

has certainly played the racist card, but I think that are the minority who still use the heavy handed Jim Crow tacticts. The people with real power have repackaged racism so that it is much easier for the majority of the public to swallow. Having the Tea Party variety on view is useful because they can point to that and say, well most people don't like that so that means that we have become a post racial society.

A Pew survey in January 2010 indicated that the percentage of black Americans who thought blacks were better off than they were five years before had almost doubled since 2007. There were also significant increases in the percentages who believed the standard-of-living gap between whites and blacks was decreasing. No wonder they love the president.

There was only one trouble with these assessments. They weren't true. African Americans, as a group, are far worse off now than they were when Obama came to power and the gap between whites and blacks in terms of wealth and income has increased under Obama's tenure. The overall rate of unemployment may be close to where it was when Obama took office, but black unemployment is up 11%. Meanwhile the wealth gap has doubled during this recession with the average white American now having 22 times more wealth than their black counterparts. So too has the educational achievement gap with the rate at which white Americans graduate from high school growing at a far faster clip than black students.

      Funny, he doesn't look white.
