  •  John - I know it is disheartening (6+ / 0-)

but I for one am glad some people have "showed their ass" and are now letting their real attitudes come out.

It's always good to know where people you thought you knew - especially those who claim to be progressive/liberal..whatever tag they wear, are really coming from.

    •  That's the One Good Thing That's Happened (5+ / 0-)

No more of this racism on the down-low crap.  Now, we know (looking at the reactions of some enemies and some so-called allies alike) that those of us who said racism had gone nowhere but underground were 100% right.

      God I wish we weren't.

    •  That's true. (2+ / 0-)

It's cold comfort, but it's true.

I always say that I prefer the harsh truth to a soothing lie, but sometimes the truth hurts.

I'm not going to pretend I understand how this feels for this country's black citizens.  I'm sure it's yet another punch in the stomach.  I wish I could say something meaningful, but I think this is both a real and a metaphorical funeral, and the only thing I can say is I'm sorry.  And I say that knowing full well just how inadequate it is.

My husband, the reasonable one between the two of us, always says it's better when racists finally show themselves. As much as it hurts, at least you know what ideology they have and can form a plan of attack based on that. Or just walk away.
