  •  ...I had to get a restraining order... (13+ / 0-)

...and the way it works in California is a lot of paper work that has to be done exactly right...then it will be temporary. Then you go to court about it and hopefully get the message across. If you absolutely must, you can then make it permanent. They try to talk you out of that because a permanent restraining order follows the person forever = getting a loan and it shows up, try to get a job and it shows up...the person is marked for the rest of their life.

I chose not to make the one I took out permanent. I don't know if that was the right choice, however...

    •  Here the judges set their (14+ / 0-)

own criteria to be even eligible to apply for one. Long story short, he has had to threaten me with violence or has raped me. Seriously. WTF?!

He if continues to obsess with me, it is just a matter of time. That's how it escalates to violence. He is sick.

We did away with most mental health institutes. For years we have put our mentally ill in jail. Jail is not the answer. Prevention and health care is the answer. Sometime the legal system is needed to assure that someone like this gets the help they need.

I am sorry that you too have gone / are going through this.

Do you feel as violated as we do?

      •  ...a completely different situation than yours... (12+ / 0-)

...the guy next door is one of these guys that thinks being physical and violent is "normal." He's gotten physical with me twice...the second time he stalked me, ambushed me and hit me in my head, face and eye with a beer bottle.

He hasn't done anything since that, but I'm sure he'd love to if he thought he could get away with it.

When we went to court about it (mediation is how they do restraining order stuff here)...it really became obvious he didn't understand that attacking someone is NOT OK. He truly believes that it is perfectly normal...that's how anyone acts if they believe total lies said about another.

This guy is dumb, unfortunately. I believe he's a few cards short of a full deck. He is busy growing his big-ass pot farm so he keeps to himself now (doesn't want any one nosing around)...

        •  Our Creep is sexist (11+ / 0-)

Women are only good for a few things. Gardening is one of them.

Tries to paint himself as a bleeding heart democrat. Possibly suffers from Narcissistic personality disorder? A former neighbor who works with the mentally handicapped moved because of him.  She believes with all of her heart he is mentally ill and discriminates against women. He was outside her bathroom once when she stepped out of the shower. She has a big ol'hubby who confronted the creep. He should have gone to jail then.

Violence is never the answer. Thank goodness he did not hurt you any more than he did. He should have done jail time. That would let him know that you can not hurt others and get away with it.

          •  ...you may be right...that's just what the cops... (9+ / 0-)

...said too. They said that's the only thing guys like that understand.

He should have done jail time. That would let him know that you can not hurt others and get away with it.

            The problem is:

             1) another person knew this guy was violent and dumb and so he set this guy up by way of lying (and he's admitted that)...so he'd attack me. When I found that out, I knew the onus was truly on the lying guy who set it up. The violent man was just a pawn...so I didn't let the cops arrest him (which pissed them off)

            2) His wife would have bailed him out and then he'd probably feel obligated to do something worse. I can't be home 100% of the time. I have three dogs and smilecreek is here too. The guy started driving onto our road and putting dead, road-killed flattened squirrels on the road on our property. This was some sort of sign...I don't want more trouble from this shit-head...
