and thank you for cross-posting it here.  It was quite engrossing to read Prof. McCoy's article!  I passed my laptop to my husband to read this diary as well because I felt the information here is essential for every American who cares about our First and Fourth Amendments (and every one of us should care about them!) to know.

I'm just sorry that this diary did not make it to the recommended list----it should have.  In order to determine how we prevent the setting-aside of our most basic rights in order to be "safe", we need to know what living within a surveillance state means.  I see red flags signaling danger to our Constitution and to our rights here in the U.S.  The secrecy of this process and the multitude of secret programs should be a major source of concern and attention from each of us in the coming days and months.  Abrogating our 1st and 4th Amendments without our permission OR knowledge is NOT ok with me.

Again, thanks for a powerful article with a vital message for all of us.

"A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more." - from the prophet Jeremiah
