There seems to be a lot of more attention being paid to a recced diary that says the NSA has been involved in massive data collection since at least 2005.

I think not that long ago making mention of the fact that massive data collection preceded the Obama administration was characterized as disingenuous, apologist, nothing-to-see-hereism. 'Blah, blah, blah,' I think was the title of the diary that typified that sentiment.

    But that was then.

Today it's important to set the record straight that massive NSA data collection didn't just start in 2013 or 2006.

"I am not interested in picking up crumbs of compassion thrown from the table of someone who considers himself my master. I want the full menu of rights." (From "You Said a Mouthful" by Bishop Desmond Tutu - South African bishop & activist, b.1931)

post-Obama.  He's only going to be here for three more years, so he's not quite that relevant to the issue.

I don't see him as the problem.  I see the NSA as the problem.  I don't think the Whitehouse really controls them the way we're led to believe.  We've seen this happen before.
