What are the odds of a successful hate crimes conviction? I am sorry to say but I suspect it approaches zero. million to one, however you want to phrase it.

Congress defined a hate crime as a “criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, ethnic origin or sexual orientation.”

That is a very high burden of proof hurdle, given the result of his criminal prosecution, I am not confident anyone could achieve.

A wrongful death civil action might stand a much better chance, but not anything under the hate crime statutes I fear.

Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy.
