IL is no more "solidly blue" than is IN or OH or PA or MI. IL, like every state, is blue in the cities and red in the countryside. IL has a single large city which is larger than other states. Chicago is "solidly blue".

IL has had, over the last 40 years, 28 years of Republican governors and 12 of Democratic.

What will determine the next governor of IL? Taxes (property taxes in IL, especially where I used to live in Belleville, IL, were absolutely ridiculously high), and the pension mess. If the Democrats cannot fix the pension mess, there will be hell to pay.

I live about 40 miles East of Belleville and taxes and pensions are big issues. And the Dems are getting the flack for both. Of course, this is a solid red area that would vote for any Republican over one of those "Chicago" politicians.

The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little. Franklin D. Roosevelt
