the defense doing their job and the prosecution missing.  The defense got the jury to see Zimmerman as a sympathetic individual.  He was trying to do right but it all went wrong for him.  Well yeah - I can see that.  Problem is that "wrong" wasn't just spilled milk.  It was another human beings life.  And if that is your thinking then manslaughter is the right finding.

But when you try to attach intent behind the action and there is not a lot of facts to show it then you end up acquitting.  I think Trayvon was poorly served from the get go.  2nd degree murder was a stretch.  And perhaps even more of a stretch because Zimmerman was not black.  And he looks a bit dough-y and soft and like that goofball who thinks much more of himself than anyone else.... a wannabe somebody. Well that all works in Zimmerman's favor.  And the jurors are more likely to think  - "well gee this is tragic but it wasn't his intent...."  and the prosecution loses a chance to really solidify the manslaughter charges.

I don't know I could be wrong.  Frankly, I haven't paid attention.  First, I am not so into the sensational trials but I also tuned out once I learned that they were going for 2nd degree murder.
