  •  No they won't vote democratic. But you know (5+ / 0-)

    What? I don't think I implied that.

What are you so pissed about?

Nowhere in this diary does it say republican voters will march in the streets over this.

But you know what they might pick up a phone and express outrage. And your know what, THAT would present the representative with the cover he/she needs to vote for it. "Well, my constituents said they wanted it and I serve my constituents." This is a political move and, no offense, Ive been speaking to republican reps in states like ID and TN. The are not stupid. They "get it" but they need cover to approve it.

Not all will but enough to get it through in some of these states.

    Thanks for nothing.

    •  Don't take it personally. (5+ / 0-)

I am just saying that Red state legislators and governors aren't going to budge because of a teeny note on a webpage. None of these states will budge. This is a national sabotage effort.

I appreciate the effort and skill that went into the diary, which I recommend. I disagree with the suggestion that any of this is going to have an affect on the redstate saboteurs.

They don't react to sternly worded letters.....or teeny tiny notes on a webpage ---notes that do not mention the word "Republican".

I applaud and appreciate your effort to inform. Well done and thoughtful.

If you hate government, don't run for office in that government.

but you can be damned sure the business' greatly affected will be howling like crazy! Hospitals do have clout and when they start losing money their state legislators are going to hear from them.

you assertion that they won't reconsider their position.

A "note" as you derisively call it. isn't the only thing that;s going to be happening. that's why listed all the other stuff that will be happening at the same time.

I think collectively it could have an impact but more importantly when people realize they can't get something they need, they'll call their reps and butch about it.

In the hierarchy of human drive, loss aversion is much more powerful a motivator than the promise of gain. People are going to see their friends and families getting coverage only to be told, when they inquire about it that they can't get it because the legi didn;t expand medicaid.

if there's anything about repubs I know, they are OKEY DOKEY with shit that benefits them (see: get you government hands off my medicare). I wouldn't be so sure about them not calling.

And the reps AT THAT POINT have political cover, which is really what they need. I've SPOKEN to them. They do "get it" but there's nothing they can do right now without pissing off their brainwashed constituents.

I had someone from ID say, "well...we'll see what happens come October 1st". damn if I could get him to elaborate. But my sense NOW, reading the Huff Po article is that they need the push for cover. They need that push - notes, health advocacy groups, insurance companies,  enroll america, etc etc. - all of these factors, it seems, will push constitutents to call and bitch and THEN then have cover to "change their minds" without risking much.

    •  Poor republicans would rather have no health care (0+ / 0-)

than Obamacare, so this really does nothing
