  •  No and now that the Dems have blown their wad (5+ / 0-)

on the less important, short-term regulatory appointments and can declare victory, the likelihood that they will do anything about the filibuster for judicial appointments and legislation is about nil.  If this happens, the Repubs win - they still control judicial appointments and legislation - and the Dems are snookered again.

This felt like a test case and Reid can now go to Senate Democrats who are reluctant about filibuster reform and tell them that the experiment worked, so they should get on board with expanding the threat of a nuclear option towards judicial appointments because this wasn't the end of the world.

      •  Disagree. He made a deal he didn't have to make (1+ / 0-)

so it was just a threat, not an ultimatum.  And a bad deal at that since they caved on the Labor Board appointments for no real reason but to cave.

By carving out regulatory appointments, he also made the judicial and legislative filibuster all the more important so now it's even a bigger deal to change the rules on those.

Time will tell.  My guess is the pressure is off to do anything about filibuster reform, which solves a big problem for Reid.  We won't be hearing too much about it and certainly not from Dem leadership.
