    •  I know. Yet an amendment can change that (0+ / 0-)

      •  The trouble with that is that if we had the votes (0+ / 0-)

we wouldn't need to do it. The Constitution explicitly protects small states (the extreme case originally being Rhode Island), which nowadays mostly means extremely rural states where the Religious Right has its greatest strength—the Bible Belt. Polls have for decades shown the strength of the Religious Right declining gradually, and it is now at critical levels in swing states that are turning ever Bluer, and in Reddish states that are turning Purple.

In fact, Democrats could take over if we voted our numbers, and take over definitively if we not only voted our numbers but repealed the gerrymanders, reformed the filibuster, and replaced Scalia and Kennedy on the Supreme Court. All of this is projected to happen during Hillary Clinton's projected Presidency, or possibly that of some other Democrat.

    •  Oh, its pretty straightforward ... (0+ / 0-)

... just split New York State, Texas, Florida and California into from two to five states each, and things would be much closer to the proportion between big and small states at the founding.
