    Why was the issue only about filibustering nominees, and not about filibustering legislation? A deal is about whatever the parties make it about. If the issue was limited, that was a choice by Reid, not some kind of externally imposed necessity.

    The diary says "This battle was fought over presidential nominations." Does that include judicial nominations? I.e., last I heard the GOP was considering abolishing seats on the D.C Circuit Court of Appeals, rather than allow nominations for the currently vacant seats there to proceed. There are many other judicial nominations also being stalled by the GOP.
