"For all it's faults"  I assume you mean the systematic culture of pedophilia; denial of rights/condemnation of gays and of course their continuing demands that women by nature are just less than men. And I've just skimmed the surface of those "faults".

Net good?  How do you quantify the lives they have destroyed?

have both come out strongly against the inequities and injustices in America and abroad.  I get as many petition emails from them as I do MoveOn or PFAW in any given week, and usually on the same subjects.  And I'm not even Catholic.

That's not to absolve the church as an institution mind you.  Their history of abuses and injustices is legend.  (Same could be said of pretty well ALL religions.)  But they have to start somewhere, sometime.  And it takes a long time to alter the trajectory of history.

I'll believe corporations are people when one comes home from Afghanistan in a body bag.

      •  I believe the discussion was about the Church (0+ / 0-)

as an institution.  And that is where my disagreement lies.

Individual Catholics along with many Catholic groups have done and continue to do amazing, wonderful work.

I believe they will win in the end or the Church itself will end.
