Humanity's operating system has evolved for a thousand years in the New World era of expanding territories and expanding abilities to extract resources and dispose of wastes. For centuries our concepts of freedoms and responsibilities, and our governing systems, have been refined on the premise that there was always more to gain than we could harvest, and no important consequences limiting our activities.

You seem to be suggesting we've misjudged.

The problem we need to address is not the consequences, but the operating system that produces them.

energy to refining predictions and more on stepping up to the plate that every demographic of the rest of We The rest-of-the People have stepped up to, over the centuries, by recognizing that society's course will never change without extremely rude behavior on the part of those who can command society's attention by misbehaving.

Scientists: you're the only ones left who can protest, strike, or deny service with effect. The economic and political effectiveness of the rest of us have been neutered by 2 generations ownership liberating of their dependence on us.

The only ones among The People they still need are you.

Some among you must take the lead. Find pressure points, find types of actions, which only you knowing the issues as the rest of us cannot --and many among us will have your backs and come out at your sides.

To paraphrase Gil Friend , we have to change the whole nature of our economy within a generation or less.

One of the changes we will have to account for is probably going to be more extreme heat waves.  Some of the accommodations for that kind of emergency might leverage other, beneficial changes throughout the operating system.
