    that his very continued existence and freedom is probably what's protecting the data. Hint: "if something happens to me, that data gets released to every major news outlet".

    Your mistake is thinking that his "protecting" is an active thing that he himself is doing.

      HE said that "... the secrets I continue to protect." You can make up what ever interpretation you want, but those are HIS words. Not "the secrets that I protected."

        IF (and yes that is speculation/interpretation) what I suggest is true, then his "protection" is neither hands on nor past tense. You should try rereading what I wrote because it's quite clear you didn't get it.

          conjecture is more than that, I'll assume that he wrote what he meant. He wrote that he is protecting the information. If he has relegated disclosure, or non-disclosure, to some superior automated intellect, or other people,  or whatever, then his statement is false.
