  •  Liz Cheney is running for President (2+ / 0-)

This senate run in Wyoming is purely to set Liz up to run for president against Hilary in 2016. After all, the Senate has become a launch pad for presidential runs in the last couple of cycles. Being in the Senate gives her a national credibility that she can't get just by being Darth Cheney's daughter. And the Republicans think that any given vagina can sway the woman's vote, so if they run a conservative woman, all the women will vote for her instead of Hilary.

    •  Will the media ask if she is running for President (0+ / 0-)

Seem to remember Hillary on that denial seat uncomfortably numerous times.

Answer: Won't be nary a Peep.

    •  Almost got it, Mr Bo. (0+ / 0-)

The Repubs--and the Cheneys in particular--always play the long game.  You're absolutely right that Liz is seeing this Senate run as a launch pad, but not for 2016.  She'd have to start preparing for a top-of-the-ticket run as soon as she was sworn in as Senator, and blowing off the gig just two years in would have an unpleasantly Palinesque odor to it.  My bet is she leaves the '16 field to Hillary, Unka Joe, Brian Schweitzer or whatever Dem comes outa the primaries, figuring the GOP's edge through voter suppression will be offset by minority outrage over the VRA decision and the Martin verdict.

She'll serve a full 6-year term, obstructing all the way.  Then in 2020, with the economy still limping along (the "new normal" we've all been warned about) and voter fatigue with Dems on the rise, her father Darth (with enough artificial parts by this point to qualify for cyborg status) will judge it to be time.  But not for President.  No, Darth knows where the power truly lies.  His unholy offspring will try to reclaim his former throne, leaving the top spot open for (say it softly, with a frisson of foreboding)...Jeb.

Long game, Mr Bo.  Bush/Cheney '20--The Final Solution.

      •  Can't dispute this, but... (0+ / 0-)

You could be right. We're both speculating out whatever convenient orifice, but I'm going to stick with 2016. While the conservatives are longer visioned than we, I don't think the Cheneys are that patient. Liz is aiming for 2016 and simply because they think Hilary will run and they want a female to run against her because they still think one woman is the same as another.
