    history of the Spanish Civil War a few years ago, and was struck not only by the analogous rhetoric coming from the political right, but by the possibility that we might have a similar conflict here in the future.

    And I am not sure Spain is finished with internal conflict, either.  When the current suicidal economic regime collapses, and it will, there are several countries around the world where I expect separatism will assert itself.
