    Doesn't the Florida statute have something about being the innocent victim of an attack? Laying hands on someone (which is the latest news I've heard) means you're not the innocent victim.

    That should've been in the jury instructions.

      If GZ laid hands on TM, TM had the right to resist, but not to use deadly force.  This is the whole point of all this law.  You can use reasonable force to resist.  There is absolutely no evidence that GZ touched TM in any way before this happened unless you believe Rachel that TM said get off get off.  But even if he did, TM had the right to resist that force, knock the hand off etc.  But he did not have the right to attack GZ and bounce his head off the concrete a few times.  That is the use of deadly force, (force likely to cause death or serious bodily injury.)  That was the escalation that TM undertook.
