    as of the 2010 census the Bakersfield urban area is over half a million. Even Oildale has over 50,000 these days.

      ...all of Kern County--but then again, the family planning clinic they're targeting serves the whole county, which is larger than three states put together.

      And folks in CA ask why the HSR line should go through the Central Valley?  How about: Bakersfield (500,000+), Visalia (125,000), Fresno (500,000), Merced (80,000+), Modesto (200,000), Stockton (291,000).  Gotta be 3+ million people within 25 miles of the line.
