and I, too, am concerned with the frequency of drone strikes.  I am also disturbed by the somewhat sophomoric defense of the nation and president, as though no criticism is warranted.  That's what the right does.  Not what progressives do.

There was a diary written a few months back about the Dorner incident in LA, which I found thought provoking.  A lot of posts were vicious, and that response is not warranted.  There are trends afoot, those of knee jerk reactions, blind loyalties and lots of angry violence support.  The Dorner diarist made the point that a civilized society operates under certain rules and always respects those rules and those individuals.  Someone pointed out that after WWII, the U.S. was insistent on trials for the war criminals.  In other nations, the criminals were shot in the streets.

The U.S. was once a great nation because of things like that...laws respected, courts, civility and decency.  That's what this diary is about.  Sad that there is little support for it: what is it now, a nation of savages?  Is demanding responsibility from those in power now treason?

BTW, the argument has been made before that if U.S. policy continues to be droning whatever for no discernible reason, terrorist activity is actually fomented rather than suppressed.

I recall yet another diary observing that democracy was dead....

I just can't understand how we could go from (deservedly) calling GWB a "war criminal" turning a blind-eye to a policy of extrajudicial assassination of American citizens.

That kind of hypocrisy terrifies me.

Each white flag represents at least 5 dead Iraqis and each red flag, at least 5 dead Americans.

What stronger breast-plate than a heart untainted! Thrice is he arm'd, that hath his quarrel just; And he but naked, though lock'd up in steel, Whose conscience with injustice is corrupted. King Henry, scene ii
