      issue.  Meaning, if there is no registration of guns, how is anyone supposed to know the old man actually owned the guns and didn't just make up the whole story so he could shoot him someone.

        friends and associates, and see if they had ever been to his house and seen his guns or had seen him with guns at rifle ranges or whatever.

          actually investigate Spooner's claim that someone broke in and stole his shotguns.

          As we see in the GunFail and Gun Crazy diaries, there is often little or no investigation when gun owners fail to secure their firearms.

          And here on Daily Kos our RKBA members will argue that placing any burden on the gun owner after a gun theft is an unfair burden on a crime victim. The problem with that line of thinking is that a gun owner who fails to keep possession of this guns places an unfair burden on everybody else because they face a higher risk of being shot.
