  •  Don't underestimate the Dems to cave (5+ / 0-)

I will not be convinced the Dems won this until I see them use this threat on judicial nominees and legislation.

The bureaucracies of these departments were continuing whether there was a head or not.  Of the 400 filibusters the Republicans have done, these 5 had little meaning.

Please Dems, prove me wrong and show me you won't let the Repugs filibuster important jobs bills, environmental legislation, budget bills, judicial appointments...  Only when you do this, can you claim a victory.

is probably doomed to fail anyways with the current set of clowns in charge over there.

Nominations were one area where only the Senate gets a say-so.

      •  Yes, let good bills die in the Republican house (0+ / 0-)

First, let the Democrats ram through a jobs bill that the Republicans are filibustering, then let it go to the house to die.  Do you think the public will remember in the voting booth in 2014?

    •  A perfect example is the farm bill (2+ / 0-)

why should Dems deal? let the bill expire if they refuse to compromise--SNAP program will simply revert to previous year's funding levels with no further cuts while Big Agri farmers feel the pain

    •  that's not what "winning" means here (0+ / 0-)

No one ever said they had the votes in their own caucus for judicial nominees and legislation.  Winning means they will get seven nominees confirmed. It's not quite that the Republicans got "nothing" since they changed two of the nominees, but the replacements are probably as good or better than the originals.

Winning to my mind also means that next time executive nominees come up, similar deals also occur. But I do not expect something similar on judicial nominees until there's a been a lot more public leadup to it.
