I've been hearing about the rise of the Religious Left for ages now and I can find little evidence of their influence, either now or 20 years ago. Certainly hope this leads to good but I just don't see it.

I actually went and dug through the report and I suggest everyone do the same because it's really interesting. It's fairly obvious that "religious" in this case more or less meant Christian, which is okay. In the US the two are synonymous whether we want to acknowledge that or not. It also acknowledges that actually surveying the Religious Left is a pretty difficult thing to do. Mainline Catholic policy is pretty progressive on the poor---look at Pope Francis's new efforts. But it's downright regressive on women's rights and same sex marriage. In the evangelical sphere there's the rise of the Emergent Church and that can just take any form whatsoever.

Page 32 onward is most interesting.

TomP thank you for bringing this to us, but it's a far more complex and fascinating study than ThinkProgress lays out.
