  •  Are you seriously not getting how (8+ / 0-)

Obama self-ids with Martin? Obama may be 1/2 white but he looks AA and he is treated the same way that Martin and other AAs have been treated.

You are coming off incredibly tone deaf.  Shows that its not just conservatives that are ignorant.

The apartheid state of the '50s disappeared during the Johnson administration, when Obama was growing up in Hawaii and Indonesia and Trayvon Martin had not been born yet.

I understand that both Barack Obama and Trayvon Martin are subject to racial profiling -- but that's your argument, not Desert Scientist's.

      •  All of your comments in this thread have the (9+ / 0-)

same ignorant and quite frankly, offensive, tone to them. Like you are amazed that Obama identifies as Black.

to think. Although integration occurred under Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson, attitudes do not change that rapidly.

To this day there are some areas in the South that are dangerous for African Americans.  I had hoped that the Civil Rights Act would symbolize a new South, but the activities of the Tea Party, both in north and south (and west) have disabused me of this naive opinion.

you are delusional. And you've never studied history. Hate just went underground for a little while. People can hand down hate through generations over hundreds of years. Ask a Bulgarian on the street how he feels about Turks for example. I know people here who are still carrying the hate passed down to them by their grandparents who were secret members of the Knights of the Golden Circle. They still think they are going to rise again and win the war of northern aggression. This Trayvon murder and the reaction to it especially in the South and Texas just proves my point that racism which came from being the formerly superior class deprived of their property still holding a grudge and they intend to get their property back.
