  •  Didn't know that about "Goons." (3+ / 0-)

Thanks for the info.  You could interpret the recording for that word very easily.  That  would only be slightly less denigrating than "coons," however, given that it's a black criminal gang.  Consider if this was an L.A. case and he'd said, "fucking Bloods," for instance.  It's profiling, and still would be even if you accept "punks."

As to the experts, they had to manipulate the recording to arrive at their conclusion.  Did they do the same for any other part of the call?  No.  Was it because the words aren't relatively clearly enunciated (albeit relatively quietly so, compared to the rest of the call)? No.  The enunciation is clear despite the volume of sound.  They analyzed it to be something it doesn't sound like because of something other than the evidence.  It was the implications of the evidence that caused the flurry of  audio re-engineering.  Have you listened to it and heard "punks?"  If so, I'd be interested in the link you're listening to.  It probably isn't this one (time sig 2:22)

Experts are wrong about half the time.  That's why there's always two opposite expert opinions in any trial that requires one, and the ones where there's only one for the prosecution (which, in effect, is what happened in this case), that one is very likely to be wrong.  It's actually a US judicial plague.
