Mitt Romney said, “Let Detroit go bankrupt.”  The President said no way, no how.  And yet, Detroit is bankrupt, and what’s worse, Detroit turning to rubble.  The manufacturing centers of every major Midwestern swing state are rusting over, and the only real growth that is occurring, is occurring in Texas.  That’s right, the Texas Miracle.

Ted Cruz is going to kill us if he’s able to point the finger at regulations and blame unions and environmental standards for everybody’s problems, and all our candidate can do is stutter and backtrack and say that they too are in favor of deregulation, because they don’t dare take a real New Dealer’s stance.  A fair trade stance, that would really bring jobs back.  Nope, the Establishment Democrats, with their Rubinite advisers fresh out of Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, would never dream of fighting back against outsourcing or Walmartization, and so their only response to Cruz’s relentless oratorical assault will be the John Kerry Defense: “I’m pretty much just like you, why are you hurting me?”

It starts out with intellectual dishonesty about Detroit. Any honest person knows that the Detroit being refrenced was the auto industry. It's hard to take anyone seriously when they start that dishonestly.

Of course that was followed by "Ted Cruz is going to kill us..." which did get a good laugh out of me.

At how the Republicans are going to hit us.  If you refuse to do so, then you can't counter them.

Hubris has apparently never harmed anyone ever before in the history of American politics.

        the republicans will be?

Carry on. I haven't even begun to pick a canddate but the last thing I will do is listen to the dishonest arguments from one's supporters to pick one.

That after 8 years of Democrats in the White House, without any appreciable reversal of outsourcing from the Rust Belt, people won't listen to whoever says that deregulation and union-busting is the reason the South is growing, then you're crazy.  Deregulators and union-busters are already gaining ground in Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, etc.

The ground is crumbling beneath our feet in the Midwest.  They threw their support behind Obama in 2012 because he said he'd help them.

If four whole years go by and help still hasn't come, you don't think Republicans braying about the Texas Miracle won't find receptive ears, then you're nuts.

We need to be ready to counteract this.  If we run a Third Way candidate who is on economic policy, a Ted Cruz-Lite, then we could be very well fucked.

same 8 years, have not been able to persuade voters that they represent people's best interests.

The demographic shift doesn't need "crowing about," but the shift is there just the same.  Romney was defeated badly in core population constituencies which only a generation ago a "moderate" Republican would have either won or been competitive with.

In that same 8 years, the Republicans have lost two national elections.  There were three Senate seats -- Delaware, Missouri, and Indiana -- over the same period which would almost certainly have been theirs but for the fact that their base nominated two misogynist dingbats and one ex-witch for the Senate ballot.

I don't perceive that voters would consider HClinton to be "Ted Cruz-Lite."

As I read that. Mitt meant GM & Chrysler, not the city of Detroit. That wasn't even in discussion at the time. I live near Detroit.
Please, please, do not let this idiotic "correlation" carry forward. Mitt did not mean the city of Detroit, don't let the GOP interchange the two.
