But I have rode across country on a Jap bike back in the mid 80's.  Kawasaki 750...and the ride was so smooth that I kicked my heels up (literally), leaned against the backrest, and rode for miles in the Southwest where the interstate is ribbon straight.

Coming home was a drag...it was later in the summer, and the Midwest thunderstorms were in full force.  Rode for 10 hours through almost constant rain...and my rainsuit failed.  I was soaked to the bone.

Pulled into Oklahoma City looking for a room, and I kid you not...I had 2 motels decline to give me a room just because I looked so haggard.

Cause he gets up in the morning, And he goes to work at nine, And he comes back home at five-thirty, Gets the same train every time.

I used to get refused at motels just for being me. Hah

But I`m not afraid of long hauls.
I came in from Montreal to SoCal.
When I got here it was like a Forest Gump thing.
I was ready to turn around & ride some more.
      Here`s my old 1946 Knucklehead.
No suspension in the rear nor the seat.
Try & see the pot leaves on the side of the tank.
      This was a suicide shift.
      No front brake.
